Treading on Lions

Psalm 91:13 - "Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet."

The tone shifts here from being kept from danger to walking over it. A lion is open, roaring, visible danger. An adder is hidden, silent, the danger you do not see until it strikes. Together they represent every kind of threat, loud and quiet, obvious and disguised. And the promise is not merely survival, it is trampling, dominion, the picture of authority walking over what once seemed fearsome.

This is a verse for seasons when you have felt intimidated for too long. In God, fear does not have to dictate your steps. The lion may roar and the serpent may hide, but neither has greater authority than the Lord. Courage is not pretending the threat is small. It is remembering that God is greater.

Luke 10:19 records Jesus giving His disciples authority over the power of the enemy. Spiritual authority is not loud self confidence. It is confidence rooted in Christ and expressed through prayer, truth and obedience.

Whatever has been roaring at you, bring it beneath the authority of God. Walk forward in prayer, wisdom, obedience, and the courage he supplies.

What has been intimidating you? Bring it beneath the authority of Christ, then take the next wise and obedient step instead of allowing fear to keep you still.

Prayer

Lord, give me the authority to tread over the lions that roar at me and the adders that strike in secret. Let me walk in dominion today, not mere survival, over everything set against my peace. Amen.
