The Hill Is Not Your Helper

The Hill Is Not Your Helper

Psalm 121:1 to 2 - "My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth." Psalm 121:2 KJV

The psalmist looked towards the hills and asked, "From whence cometh my help?" Then he answered his own question: "My help cometh from the Lord."

The hills were visible. God was not. The hills looked strong, established and dependable, but the psalmist understood something we must never forget: created things cannot take the place of the Creator.

We naturally feel safer when we can see where our help is coming from. We look towards our jobs, savings, qualifications, relationships and connections. We feel secure when an influential person promises to help us. There is nothing wrong with receiving help through people, but trouble begins when we give the channel the place that belongs to the Source.

Your employer may be a channel of provision, but your employer is not your source. A doctor may be a channel of healing, but the doctor is not the giver of life. Someone may recommend you for an opportunity, but that person does not own your destiny.

When you mistake a channel for the Source, you panic whenever the channel changes. One person says no, and you behave as though God has rejected you. One door closes, and you conclude that your future has closed with it. Someone withdraws their support, and suddenly you feel as though heaven has run out of options.

But God is not limited to the person you expected Him to use.

He can send help through the hill, around the hill or from somewhere you never thought to look. He can cause a stranger to remember you. He can place your name in a room you have never entered. He can create an opportunity that did not exist when you began praying.

Do not imprison your answer inside one person or one method.

The psalmist calls his Helper "the Lord, which made heaven and earth." The One helping you made everything you can see and everything you need. He is not trying to gather resources. He does not need permission. He is not waiting for circumstances to become convenient before He can act.

The channel may change, but the Source remains.

Reflection

Have I made one person or organisation my only hope?

Has someone's behaviour taken away my peace because I unconsciously made that person my source?

Am I treating a closed door as though God Himself has said no?

Can I surrender my preferred answer and trust God's wisdom?

Do I truly believe that God has more than one way to help me?

Prayer

Father, I acknowledge You as the Source of everything I need. People may be channels, but my help, provision, healing and advancement come from You. Forgive me for the times I trusted people, positions and expected outcomes more than I trusted You. Break every unhealthy dependence upon human beings. I refuse to give anyone the place in my heart that belongs only to You. If one door closes, show me the doors You have prepared. If one person says no, remind me that heaven has not said no. Send me help from expected and unexpected places. Let divine assistance locate me speedily. Raise people who will remember me for good. Let the right voices speak for me in rooms I have not entered. Release every form of help required for my next season. Send wisdom, favour, provision, opportunity and genuine relationships. Remove every counterfeit helper whose involvement would complicate my journey. Connect me with people who carry Your purpose for my life. Nothing I need is beyond Your reach. Nothing connected to my destiny is scarce in Your hands. I will not panic because one channel has dried up. My Source is still flowing, and my expectation will not be cut off. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Declaration for Today

People are channels, but God is my Source. If one door closes, my destiny is not closed. If one person walks away, my Helper remains. The Maker of heaven and earth has more than one way to answer me.
