What Has God Actually Said

1 Kings 17:7 to 9 - "Arise, get thee to Zarephath." 1 Kings 17:9 KJV (excerpt)

When something stops working, the pressure to act can become loud. Everyone has an opinion. Fear supplies its own instructions. You may feel that any movement is better than staying with uncertainty.

In Elijah's account, God gives a clear instruction: go to Zarephath. The brook's condition had changed, and Elijah needed to hear what God was saying next. As we reflect on his experience, it is worth asking whether our own distress has left us so occupied with what has ended that we have stopped making room to listen.

Open Scripture again. Pray honestly. Give wise counsel a hearing. Let the responsibilities God has already entrusted to you help shape your decisions. Every closed door is not a hidden instruction, but every difficult decision can be brought before Him. You can seek His wisdom without forcing certainty.

Sometimes the most useful question is simple: What do I actually know? Separate the facts from the fears, and the clear responsibilities from the imagined ones. Ask God for wisdom to do what is right with the understanding available today. He can receive a sincere prayer that begins, Lord, I do not know.

Reflection

Which thoughts are rooted in facts, and which are being driven by fear?

Whose wise counsel could help me weigh my next step?

Prayer

Father, quiet the panic that makes every thought sound urgent. Give me understanding as I read Your Word and weigh good counsel. Keep me teachable, truthful and willing to change direction when needed. In Jesus' name, amen.

Declaration for Today

The Lord is worthy of my attention, even when anxiety is demanding an immediate answer. I choose to listen, to search His Word and to welcome wise counsel. I do not need to force an answer to prove that I have faith. I can be honest about what I do not know and still trust Him.
